The Everlasting Father

His name shall be called—Everlasting Father!  I’ve been blessed to have an awesome dad in my life.  My Dad has always set such a good, godly example for me to follow.  He has always provided for our family and been faithful to teach us about the love of God.  My Dad is the best man I know, and not only because he is my earthly father and has given me a good example in life, but he was the one who led me to believe and accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.  Not everyone has that kind of history with their father.  Many have never had a chance to even know their father, and for many, their father just didn’t come around much.  Many have had the sad and unfortunate experience of having an abusive father.  And many have had great fathers, but have already seen them pass from this life.  So just knowing the Messiah coming into the world would be a Father to the Fatherless is a great comfort.

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Mighty God

His name shall be called—“Mighty God.” Who would have ever thought that Mighty God would have come through such a young girl like Mary? Who would have ever thought that Mighty God would be so small and tender and so heartwarming to hold? Who would have ever thought that Mighty God would have allowed Himself to be so vulnerable to humanity? But this was the description the prophet Isaiah would give for the Messiah.

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The God of heaven and earth is Mighty in many ways. Indeed, He is Mighty in power so that He can move the mountains in front of us and destroy the giants taunting us. He is mighty like a warrior over the enemy. Our Savior is so mighty He can take what is lifeless and dead and bring it back to life. He is Mighty to make a way for those who feel trapped with no place to go. With Mighty God, “all things are possible.” He is Mighty in creation speaking into existence the heavens and earth and calling the stars by name. He is Mighty in love so that He takes the most feeble and gives them great strength to stand against the wiles of the devil. He is Mighty in salvation forgiving the chief of sinners. He is Mighty in Himself so that He alone has power to lay His life down and to take it up again. He is Mighty in Spirit, in Word, and in every act—nothing can stop Him and no one can oppose Him. He is Mighty forever and for all who call upon the name of Jesus. Mighty God came as a baby and will come again one day as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And until that time comes, live your life in the awareness and in the power of His Might.

Wonderful Counselor

His name will be called—“Wonderful Counselor.” One of the first questions an expecting mother gets is, “Do you know what you’re having?” Some women are anxious and eager to know their baby’s gender, while others like to keep it old fashion and surprising. Knowing what you’re having in advance definitely has its advantages. Long before Mary conceived the Messiah-child, the prophet Isaiah prophesied what she was having.

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Mary would give birth to a Son who would be called “Wonderful Counselor.” This was more than a title given to a child, it was part of the calling on His life. Perhaps you’ve been to a good counselor before, but let me tell you what makes Jesus-Messiah such a Wonderful Counselor. He always has an opening anytime you need to talk. That means He is there when you need Him. On top of that, He already knows the issues we are struggling with and trying to work through before we open our mouth. In some counseling sessions you are only allotted a certain amount of time to open up and share and then receive guidance, but Jesus is able to spend as much time with you as you need. His services are absolutely free and you can come back as often as you need. As a Wonderful Counselor, Jesus will never mislead you or give you advice that would worsen the circumstance, but He will always advise you towards the right path. Whatever it is, He can help you get through it. Our Wonderful Counselor holds to the strictest standards when it comes to confidentiality and only shares with those He knows will pray for you. His counseling also comes with a guarantee, and the guarantee is that you will feel at peace before you leave His presence. Let me ask you, do you need counseling? In reality, we all need time with the Wonderful Counselor.
