The Willingness of God

He is more willing than you might think. God has been falsely portrayed as the God who is stingy, selfish and unwilling to do what we need or even want. He has been portrayed as the God who takes away instead of the God who generously gives and pours out blessings into our lives. Even by His own children, He has been viewed as staunch and stiff and quick to turn us down rather than saying “Yes” to our request. God is more willing than you might think to act and move and to agree with us. He is not the God who can’t say “No,” but He is not the God who never says, “Yes” and “Let it be according to your faith.”

“When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out [His] hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:1-3

If you came to the Lord today to ask for something, what would it be? “Lord, if You are willing, You can ________________.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can heal my wife.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can speak to my friend.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can open this door.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can take this guilt away.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can deliver my Son.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can give me strength.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can soften his heart.” “Lord, if you are willing, You can restore my marriage.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can save me.” “Lord, if You are willing, You can change this situation.”

What is it you need God to do? He is more willing than you think. Let this be your prayer to Him all day and be specific about your need. Tell Him you heard about how willing He is, and listen and watch in faith for His response. Jesus didn’t tell the leper, “I am willing, but you have to do this first.” What God is willing to do in our lives is to stand as a witness to others about His grace and goodness. He is willing, but are you willing? Are you willing to ask Him? Are you willing to spend time with Him? Are you willing to put your faith in Him? His willingness increases as we walk in obedience to Him, so walk that walk and watch His willingness at work in your life.
