When the Favored of God Fall

It would be hard to believe that God’s favored children could fall from a place of goodness, influence, status and standing, unless we could read in God’s Word where this happened.  God’s favored children fall because we see it happen in Joseph’s life and Job’s life.  We see the fall of the favored in King David’s life.  First, let me tell you that if you are a child of God, you are favored by Him.  None are more favored or less favored than you, because He looked your way and gave you faith to believe in Jesus when you surrendered your life to Him.  So though it seems that you have lost favor, it is only a trick of the devil.  You are still highly favored even when unfavorable circumstances come your way.  It’s not your circumstances that determine your favor with God, it’s your family connection through the blood of Jesus.

King David was on the throne in Jerusalem and his own son came against him, and instead of fighting for his place on the throne, David fled with the people who were loyal to him.  David fled weeping and worshipping.  When you know you are favored by God, you don’t have to fight every battle.

So David said to all his servants who [were] with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape from Absalom. Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring disaster upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”  2 Samuel 15:14

But here’s the question,  why would God ever allow you to be in a place of great favor and then allow it to be taken from you?

  1. Perhaps God allows us to be removed from greater favor as a way to remind us He was the one who placed us in that position of favor to begin with.
  2. God allows us to be moved out of places of favor to humble us and remind us that He is in control.
  3. God allows us to be moved from what looks like favored places and position to set the enemy up for a greater defeat.
  4. God allows us to be displaced from a place of favor because we get comfortable and don’t seek Him as we did before.
  5. God allows us to be moved from outward favored places, so we can know that our favor is not in a place, but it is in His person.
  6. God allows us to be moved from a place of favor so that no one around you thinks more highly of you than they should.
  7. And lastly, God allows us to be moved from a place of favor to take you to another place of favor.

Maybe what happened to David and many others in the Bible has happened to you and you’re not sure what to do or even how to live right now.  When the favored of God fall, you can do what David did in this tragic event in his life.  What did he do?

  1. Submit and surrender yourself under the sovereign hand of God.  Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and show me [both] it and His dwelling place. 26 “But if He says thus: ‘I have no delight in you,’ here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”  2 Samuel 15:25-26
  2. Wait on a word from God.                                                                 The king also said to Zadok the priest, “[Are] you [not] a seer? Return to the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. 28 “See, I will wait in the plains of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.” 2 Samuel 15:27-28
  3. Pray against/for your enemy.  “Then someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.”  And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”  2 Samuel 15:31  You can always pray that God will change your enemy’s heart.  You can always pray blessings over them, so they will lose interest in you.  But you can pray against the devil, that his plan and schemes against your life will utterly fail.
  4. Trust in your advocate who is with the throne.                         “And [do] you not [have] Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? Therefore it will be [that] whatever you hear from the king’s house, you shall tell to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. 36 “Indeed [they have] there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s [son,] and Jonathan, Abiathar’s [son;] and by them you shall send me everything you hear.” 37 So Hushai, David’s friend, went into the city. And Absalom came into Jerusalem.“ 2 Samuel 15:35-37

Believe this today, that you are favored by God no matter what condition you find yourself in.  Your circumstances in life will always change, but your favor with God will remain the same.  Live in that truth today!

The Fellowship of the Unashamed

The Fellowship of the Unashamed

I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit power.

The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I am a disciple of His. I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.

My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I’m finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudity, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer and labor by power.

My pace is set. My gait is fast. My goal is heaven. My road is narrow. My way rough. My companions few.  My guide is reliable and my mission is clear.

I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I’ve stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ.

I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give ’til I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He’ll have no problem recognizing me. My banner will be clear!

What is the Fellowship of the Unashamed?

“The Fellowship of the Unashamed” is a prayer that has inspired many to stand strong in their faith and to live unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This prayer, originally titled “A Zimbabwean Martyr’s Prayer,” was found among the papers of a young African pastor who was martyred in Zimbabwe some 100+ years ago.

According to Southern Nazarene University, the prayer was passed on by missionary Louise Robinson Chapman who served in Africa from 1920-1940.  Years later the prayer became known as “The Fellowship of the Unashamed.”  It is unclear if the pastor was killed by Islamic or other forces in that part of the world, but it is known that he was martyred for his refusal to renounce his faith in Christ.  As you read these words, commit in your heart to join in this fellowship.

Be Weak

Who would ever go around telling people how weak they are?  Most of the people I know want to talk about their strengths, talents and abilities, because we take pride in those areas.  But what are the areas you are weak in?  I’ve heard a song that speaks to this weakness and it says, “I can’t even walk without You holding my hand.” Could it be that of all the things God is doing in your life, he is intentionally making you weak, so that you will be strong?  The apostle Paul prayed for God to remove the thorn from his flesh 3 times.  Evidently this thorn, whatever it was, had a weakening affect on Paul, or at least initially he thought it did.  Is there anything in your life right now that you feel is weakening you and you’ve asked God over and over to remove it?  Some people have a history of rebellion they wish could be wiped away.  Some have needs they feel are hindering their life.  Some people have physical disabilities they want God to heal or take away completely.  There are even people who want God to remove other people from their lives because they think they are holding them back.  But what if making you weak is God’s plan?
You can ask and ask and plead with God to remove certain things from your life, and at times He will, but you can believe at times He will also give you the same answer He gave Paul.
“My grace is sufficient for you, My strength is made perfect in weakness.”  2 Corinthians 12:9.
To which Paul replied,
“Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”  “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake.  For when I am weak——then, then, and only then I am strong.”
Perhaps what God is doing in your life right now is making you weak.  You can fight against it and you can fervently pray, but when you surrender completely to what God is doing, you can experience His perfect strength.  God’s plan for your life has always been to save you and then to indwell you and then to live His life through you.  That happens in the moments we come to the place of saying, “I can’t” and God says, “I can, let me.”
“For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

DISTINGUISHED

Distinguished! That word is usually used to describe someone whose clothing fashion sets them apart from everyone else. Their fashion may not be flashy, but it is classy and catches the eye of the lookers. Distinguished also describes someone who has excelled in a specific field of study and research. There’s nothing wrong with being distinguished. In fact, being distinguished is God’s desire for you and me. We should be distinguished spiritually, not in some way that draws attention to us, but in a way that draws people to Christ. What is it that sets you apart from others? What sets you apart from those you attend church with? In all reality, your strong faith expressed in surrendered obedience to Him is the only thing that will distinguish you spiritually. It’s not your voice or ability to speak or even your faithful attendance to the Lord’s house that sets you apart. Others can teach, preach, sing and serve, but a strong faith and surrendered obedience distinguishes you. Hebrews 11 is filled with spiritually distinguished people. God is faithfully calling you to a life of faith and obedience, and not just to set you apart, but this is God’s way of providing the abundant life He promised. Without faith followed by obedience, the abundant life will be a spiritual mirage and being distinguished will only be a dream. Look at what it says about Joshua’s counterpart in Numbers 14:24 “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” Caleb was distinguished because he trusted God when other men didn’t. Anyone can be different, but only a few will be spiritually distinguished. God is calling you to be among the few.
