Airplane Mode

You don’t have to turn your phone off in order to disable it’s ability to send and receive a signal.  It’s called “Airplane Mode.”  You have to go into the settings feature of your device to turn on this operational feature.  When you turn it on, you automatically turn off the phones normal communication functions.  The mode is named because most airlines prohibit the use of equipment that transmit RF signals while in flight.  So what does that have to do with you and me?  And how often do you use your airplane mode or have you ever used it?  You may never use it, but if it depended on you safely arriving at your destination, you would use the airplane mode.

God has designed you and me to go into an airplane mode personally and spiritually.  One of our greatest needs is to turn off the signals we are getting from the world, so we can be alone with Him in prayer.  If you take your phone with you into your quiet time with the Lord, it’s not a bad idea to put it on airplane mode so you won’t be distracted.  But then you need to go into airplane mode because there’s only one signal you need to be in contact with and that is with Him.  One of the highest marks of spiritual maturity is found in your ability to shut everything off and to patiently spend time alone with God.  It’s probably the greatest need in the Christian community today, to have meaningful time alone with the Lord.

SCRIPTURE

“And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.” Mark 6:31

“Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the LORD”  Proverbs 8:34-35

You don’t have to board an airplane and fly to high altitudes in order to go into airplane mode, but you can cut off all signals from the world wherever you are.  You have been seated in the heavenlies according to Ephesians 2:6, so the airplane mode is right for you.
